Big news for Brisbane yesterday, with the first concept designs for the city’s new stadium unveiled by Australian architecture firms COX and Hassell. The initial designs mark the first step in a broader process, with full plans to be delivered in collaboration with Japan-based architects Azusa Sekkei.

Queensland Deputy Premier Jarrod Bleijie told the Today show that the firms won a three-month procurement process to deliver the plans for the proposed 63,000-seat stadium.

With construction set to begin early next year, the new Brisbane Stadium — future home of the Brisbane Lions, cricket and concerts — is another powerful reminder of why inner-city neighbourhoods close to major infrastructure continue to attract strong interest from residents and investors.

Tony Ashwin commented:

“It’s very exciting to see a landmark venue of this scale taking shape in Spring Hill. Developments like this play a defining role in Brisbane’s evolution into a truly world-class city.”
